Postpartum Depression Forum in Polish held on May 19, 2009
The birth of a baby is a blessed event. But what happens when a mother feels too sad to find joy with her baby? An information evening in Polish on Postpartum Dep ression was be held on Tuesday, May 19 at St. John Brebeuf parish, 8307 North Harlem, in Niles, at 7 PM.
The keynote speaker was Dr. S.J. Puszkarski, a psychiatrist from Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in Chicago. Father Krystzof Janczak of St. John Brebeuf opened with a prayer, and Father Rog from St. Hyacinth closed with a prayer.
In a message to those affected with Postpartum Depression, Cardinal George said we can open the Church’s loving arms to these suffering women and their families, to destigmatize the illness, and to help develop more resources to combat the disease.
We appreciate the information from Dr. Puszkarski and the input from the priests, Mary Howorth from the Ad Hoc Committee on PPD and from the women who attended. The picture on the right is: Far left, father Rog, middle, Dr. Puszkarski, and on the right, Father Janczak.
