Natural Family Planning

A Healthy Option... To remain faithful to God’s plan for marriage…
Natural Family Planning (NFP) is an umbrella term for the natural, healthy, morally acceptable methods of family planning recommended by the Catholic Church to help couples space, achieve, or avoid pregnancy.

Natural Family Planning Methods
NFP methods are completely safe and natural and do not involve the use of any medications, drugs or devices. NFP has no harmful side effects. There are three methods of NFP taught in the Archdiocese of Chicago that you can choose from: the Billings Ovulation Method, the Sympto-Thermal Method,  and the Creighton Model System. Read more

NFP classes
The cost for the in person Introduction to NFP class is $49 per couple. This is a 2 hour class that covers biology, how to use the method, the Church's teaching, and basic charting.
It is a recommended part of the marriage preparation requirement. We encourage you to learn NFP 4 to 5 months before your wedding. If you decide to continue and use the method, you take Learning the Method class. This consists of one lecture class followed by four individual confidential sessions with the instructor. Click on the class for times, locations, and fee. Introduction to NFP is required before taking Learning the Method classes.

Full classes are also available online in English and Spanish and captioned at
